About SpecTerra

SpecTerra is a Western Australian based company offering a niche airborne remote sensing service. The company was incorporated in July 2000, following 10 years of research and development led by Dr Frank Honey.

The company's primary focus is providing high quality, high resolution digital multispectral imagery for vegetation mapping and monitoring projects. SpecTerra Imagery is a low cost, high value decision making tool utilised by agricultural, mining, forestry and other land use management industries.

SpecTerra currently operates its proprietary sensors around Australia as well as in New Zealand, Chile, Spain and France. All data processing and analysis is undertaken at the company's Image Processing Centre based in Perth.

A Brief History

  • 1992
    Dr Frank Honey incorporates SpecTerra Systems Pty Ltd. The company's primary focus is to design, develop and build optical instruments for airborne remote sensing. The first 4 band Digital Multi-Spectral Video (DMSV) system was developed specifically for high resolution vegetation mapping and monitoring. A number of systems were eventually built and delivered to clients around the world. Several systems are still in operation today!
  • 1993 -1995
    Ongoing development of Geometric and Radiometric minimisation algorithms specifically for delivery of high reliability multi-spectral imagery.
  • 1996-1997
    Under contract to Resource 21 (A Boeing company) SpecTerra Systems builds 7 MkII DMSV sensors.
  • 1998-2000
    Under contract to Alto Technology/Texaco SpecTerra Systems builds a 32 channel multi-spectral scanner including TIR channels. The system is specifically tailored to map geological anomalies. The company has continued with the development of sensors including a bench top drill core scanner.
  • 2000 onwards
    SpecTerra Services is incorporated to focus wholly on developing markets and products for the 4th generation Digital Multi-Spectral Camera system.

SpecTerra has partnered with distributors in Australia and Europe to provide imagery for intensive irrigated and broad-acre cropping.
